AIA CCC Hard Hat Tour of San Luis Ranch

Logan Hunter

Our team took part in a Hard Hat Tour of The Orchards at San Luis Ranch put on by the local AIA Chapter and RRM Design Group. For those local to San Luis Obispo, this is the new construction that you can see off highway 101 between the exits for Los Osos Valley Road and Madonna Road.

San Luis Ranch defines itself as "Rural Redefined." Once complete, there will be a diverse mix of housing types with 577 homes, community spaces, shared streets, 115,000 square feet of retail space, a 200-room hotel, and a large organic farm. It is no secret that there is a housing shortage on the Central Coast, and particularly in San Luis Obispo. As a part of the development agreement, people currently working or living in San Luis Obispo will have the first shot at the homes in this development.

This was a great opportunity for us to see one of San Luis Obispo's most exciting new housing developments and learn from the team that has worked so hard, for so many years, to make it a reality. We discussed the project's sustainability goals, fire rating concerns with reduced setbacks, and principles of community planning.

Many thanks to RRM for sponsoring the walk-through!
